According to various anonymous employees on professional network platform “Team Blind”, Lemonade did letgo at least 52 employees around April 20. These layoffs primarily affected customer service, but also the claims department, according to sources. The layoffs, which surprised employees, were “performance-based,” according to Lemonade. Affected employees received invitations to meetings where they were told they would be fired for poor performance. Based on conversations we’ve had with several Lemonade sources, it’s believed the performance was just an excuse as the company tried to cut some expenses.
In order to receive severance pay, terminated employees had to sign NDAs that prevented them from leaving negative reviews on sites like Glassdoor or even talking about their termination on LinkedIn.
