Seagate Technology is laying off roughly 3,000 employees, the company announced in a press release Wednesday. Seagate employs 32,000 people globally.
The cuts will impact operations across the globe, including Seagate’s headquarters in California and Malaysia as well as its manufacturing plants in Malaysia, Thailand, China and Vietnam.
The US company’s resistance may serve as a test for the Biden administration’s strengthening of prohibitions against the supply of technology to China, which has cited national security concerns in steps it has taken against firms like Huawei. The majority of the current initiatives have centered on semiconductor technology.
